Me Without You
Me without you, you without me
all seems so unnatural – even
if I’m thinking laterally, it
literally will not lie straight
within my head, and actually,
it’s not just wrong – it’s just not right
it’s like a bird without its flight,
it’s like the day without a night,
like Dick Van Dyke without a kite,
or like an episode of Eastenders
without a single fight;
It’s like a key without its lock,
a stinging plant without a Dock,
the contents of a Christmas box
without a ghastly pair of socks,
or like a science-fiction convention
where no-one mentions
Mr. Spock;
Me without you, you without me:
(and stop me if you disagree)
the whole idea is lunacy,
It’s like a bee without its bop,
or like a flip without its flop,
or a rural garden centre
which doesn’t have
a coffee shop.
